London Boat Race was first held in 1829. It is held between Oxford and Cambridge and is a world famous sporting event. From Putney to Mortlake the 4 ¼ mile Thames course is over three times as long as the Olympic course.
The 153rd Boat Race was won by Cambridge by one and a quarter lengths in a time of 17:49 and in fair, sunny conditions. It was sponsored by Xchanging. With five returning Blues and two world champions on board, experts had predicted a bigger margin for the crew.
Admission to the boat race is free. You can watch it free of cost from the riverside.
