Overview
Identified in the London Plan, Croydon is one of ten major metropolitan centers. The principal settlement of the London Borough of Croydon, Croydon is a major commercial centre and large town in South London. It is 9.5 miles (15.3 km) south of Charing Cross and located on the natural transport corridor between London and the South coast just to the north of a gap in the North Downs. Its railway station is still a major hub in the railway transport system, even though road traffic is now diverted away from the town center. As part of Croydon Vision 2020, the town is expected to have its urban planning changed.
