Overview
Situated 7.7 miles (12.4 km) west of Charing Cross, Ealing is a town in the London Borough of Ealing. Often referred to as the "Queen of the Suburbs", Ealing is a suburban development. In the London plan it has been identified as one of the ten major metropolitan centers. Television programmes ranging from Doctor Who to Monty Python’s Flying Circus has used Ealing as locations. It is also known for the Ealing comedies including King Hearts and Coronets, Passport to Pimlico, The Ladykillers and The Lavender Hill Mob. Ealing is best known for its film studios which are the oldest in the world. Notting Hill, The Importance of Being Earnest and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones have used these studios. Ealing has a large Polish community which has grown significantly since Poland joined the EU making it easy for migrant workers to come to the UK freely. Ealing had been home to famous people including Arthur Haynes, Fred Parry Spencer Perceval and many more. Ealing also finds mention in fiction such as James Hilton’s novel Goodbye, Mr Chips, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and other.
