The Bank of England Museum is also known as the “Old Lady of Threadneedle Street Museum.” The history of the bank dates back to 1694 and today it is playing the role of the nation’s central bank. Displays on the museums are gold bars from ancient times, and pikes and muskets which were used to defend the bank. You will also come to know about the history of a mob attack on the Bank during the Gordon riots in 1780, and the introduction of paper money in 1797. The Bank also boasts of some documents related to well-known customers, including George Washington and the Duchess of Marlborough in its possession. The Museum, in March 2003 welcomed its one-millionth visitor.
