Bridges - Waterloo Bridge
On the second anniversary of the famous battle of Waterloo, Waterloo Bridge was opened by the Prince Regent on 18 June 1817. Featuring Greek style columns the original bridge was a highly decorative one with nine arches.

The structure was demolished in 1936 for a newer replacement as movement of the bridge’s supporting piers eventually led to its demise. The new bridge remains Greek in style using Portland stone to face the bridge’s concrete structure underneath was completed in 1945. The Houses of Parliament and London Eye downstream, St Paul’s and The City to the east can be viewed from the bridge.
