Galleries - Hayward Gallery
Opened by Her Majesty The Queen in 1968, the Hayward Gallery is part of the South Bank Centre which includes the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcel Rooms and the Poetry Library. Designed by a group of young architects, including Dennis Crompton, Warren Chalk and Ron Herron, it is an icon of sixties brutalist architecture and is one of the few remaining buildings of this type. The gallery has been named after the late Sir Isaac Hayward, the former leader of the London County Council.
