Islands - Isle of Dogs
Surrounded on three sides (east, south and west) by one of the largest meanders in the River Thames, the Isle of Dogs is a former island in the East End of London. The West India Docks are to the north of the Isle. Across the two bridges that cross the eastern and western entrances to the dock is the only road accessible to the island. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets and part of the London Docklands are part of the Isle of Dogs. Before its drainage and planting in the 13th century the area was originally a sparsely populated marshland. In modern times the Isle of Dogs has been the locations for many Hollywood films such as ‘The World Is Not Enough’, ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Constant Gardener’, ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, and ‘Love Actually’.
